Well, the deadline has been announced. If you hadn't heard yet, earlier this year, the National Parks announced the $10 Lifetime Senior Pass was going to increase to $80.
That date is officially August 28th of 2017.
Get it before then or you'll be spending $70 more than necessary. (Unless you just want to contribute to funding the National Parks, then by all means, wait and pay the extra.) That's why it's going up, to fund park projects and visitor services.
The pass gives seniors access to over 2000 sites and parks that the National Park Service manages. Just, please don't be one of the morons that gets too close to the wildlife looking for a selfie with a Bison...
Go to store.usgs.gov to find information on how to get a pass.
How To Get a 4-Year Payment Plan
There's a silver lining to the increase if you miss it! (No pun intended) ????
You can pay the $80 over the course of 4 years. Simply purchase a $20 annual senior pass every year for the next 4 years and then you can convert the 4 passes into one lifetime pass. So at least there's that. It's helpful if you are on a budget.
But we recommend getting it NOW while it's still $10. Why pay more when you can pay less?
The National Parks are our country's most beloved resource. We hope you do get the chance to go and visit as much as possible during your lifetime. Buying a pass does help the parks to stay maintained and serviced.
